We lived in New York for a very short time. In those lean years, we considered Union Square café as our restaurant of choice for any special meal or special occasion. Danny Meyer has long inspired me for his genuine interest in providing his guests with extraordinary experiences. Each of my trips I try to re-acquaint myself with a favorite restaurant, try a new one from a favorite chef or reach out for some new experience. On this night, I hit the jackpot with a favorite restaurant and favorite chef with a dinner at Grammercy Tavern.
Danny Meyer wrote a book a few years back titled Setting the Table about the role of Hospitality in Business. It’s simple premise is that Hospitality is when something happens for you. Which is different, he suggests, than Service defined as when something happens to you. Two words: For vs. To that make all the difference in the warmth and generosity of the experience.
We had a delightful evening and stay steadfast fans. Thank you Danny for giving us many years of enjoyment.
