Halloween – Cimetière du Père-Lachaise

Halloween: the holiday dedicated to remembering the dead.

There is a haunting beauty to the Cimetière du Père-Lachaise.  Built in 1804 on 110 acres in Eastern Paris Pere – Lachaise is a stroll through history.  The list of those buried there reads like a who’s who dating back to the French Revolution and memorializes the lives of philosophers, writers, actors, and musicians – Jim Morrison, one of the most famous of the latter group.  Today his story still holds mystery.  There are a million stories here famous and not so.

October 31, the observance of Halloween in many parts of the world, is a special day for  me for very personal reasons.  Twelve years ago I faced one of my greatest challenges with the love and support of my family and friends.   Each year, as the calendar turns to October 31, I stop and give thanks to the living.
