Barges don’t move very fast. The canals are tight squeezes with tow paths alongside that are perfect for walking or riding bikes. I preferred taking off on a bike. You were able to cover ground and it was perfect for capturing idyllic country life with my camera. The Nenuphar stopped often due to the many locks along our way, and with each we would jump on and off the boat to explore. Without fail though, we would all show up for lunch at 12:30. Early in the trip we waited to be called to dine, but with each passing day, we became more programmed so that by the end, we were sitting at the tables waiting as they brought out the main course.
