The end of Main Street HB crosses PCH and becomes the HB pier. One of the main landmarks of Huntington Beach, also known as “Surf City, USA”, the pier is the center of the city’s prominent beach culture. A popular meeting place for surfers, the ocean waves here are enhanced by a natural effect caused by the edge-diffraction of open ocean swells around Catalina Island, creating consistent surf year-round. You can stand for hours on the pier watching them mark their waves and head towards shore. It is usually filled with characters – among them purveyors of tourist souvenirs, fishermen, and entertainers. LY during the Surf City Classic, SW and I barely had elbow room as we made our way through the crowd. It is a beautiful vista to stand on the pier where, on a clear day, you can see all the way to Long Beach to the North and Newport Beach to the South.
