Wildflowers

The entire yard is nearly converted to wildflowers. Wildflowers are an important part of the Texas experience. They are a part of the ecological foundation of the state, championed in the mid 1970s by Lady Bird Johnson, and protected under state law. Vast open spaces of sun drenched fields draw visitors each Spring, particularly to the Texas Hill Country where Lady Bird’s Foundation is based. Each year the conservation efforts of the Texas Department of Transportation continue the mission. Their Wildflower program includes waiting to mow the roadsides until the flowers have gone to seed and spreading 15 tons of wildflower seeds each year.
