I never tire of driving CA 1 up and down the coast. The stretch of road in the photo is just north of Malibu. Native Californian’s call it June Gloom – the time when the air and water temperature produce a mist that rolls over the beach. A mere mile inland the skies can be the beautiful blue you associate with California days but in the month of June the coastline is wet with mist. It is unpredictable – some day’s burning off and others hanging like a wet blanket on the day’s plans. There is a beauty in it that reminds me of layers of tulle on a party dress. Standing there relishing the tranquility of the moment, I anticipated our end of summer car trip to Northern California and Big Sur. I love it there – where the rolling verdant hills meet the misty coastline and we spend evenings staring at the black night sky twinkling with brilliant stars.
