Only through the lens of years do I realize how young he was when this photo was shot. I remember as a girl looking at it from the lens of youth. He gave me this top and for a few years I wore it loosely over jeans. I still have the bracelet that bore his name and rank. When he speaks of his time on the sub I cringe, having once been in one with him in the Philadelphia Naval yard. Small and cramped I marvel at how he could have managed loving the outdoors as much as he does. In this photo I now see my brother – their smiles so similar. I didn’t recognize that as a girl. Thank you Mom for sending this to me.
Happy Veteran’s Day and thank you to all who have served.
